A new report from the Helen Clark Foundation on the state of social cohesion in our country shows rising opposition to immigration, falling trust in government, and rising loneliness. New Zealand appears to be sliding backwards on every factor that measures social cohesion.
Every February for the past 19 years, The Salvation Army's Social Policy and Parliamentary Unit has released a State of the Nation report painting an independent picture of the wellbeing of the most vulnerable in our community.
This excellent report highlights the impacts of recent policy changes, including sanctions, a traffic light compliance system, tighter emergency housing criteria and reduced community funding. These shifts have increased hardship, particularly for people already facing vulnerability due to low income, disability, health challenges or housing insecurity.
'Safe, Connected, and Accessible: Young People Shaping the Healthy Streets Approach in Tauranga' was research conducted in Tauranga exploring how rangatahi can help shape safer, healthier, and more connected streets, providing insights for urban planners and decision‑makers to respond to youth needs.
